IECAS(Intelligent Electronic Control Adaptive Suspension)

 Conventional electronically controlled dampers require a stroke sensor to detect damper speed, which was the reason for high cost. Whereas, Showa uses its unique estimation technology to accurately calculate damper speed using available CAN information. This technology has enabled the realization of an electronically controlled damper without the need of a sensor and made the reduction of product's cost and weight possible. Combination with Showa's S-SEES® has enabled the achievement of both the steering stability and ride comfort and the significant reduction of road noises.

Its unique estimation technology to accurately calculate damper speed

 The conventional electronically controlled variable damping force damper is costly because not only the damper itself is expensive but also it requires a stroke sensor to detect damper speed.
 Showa has focused attention on the relation between the changes in wheel speed and the motion of the suspension, and developed a technology that uses the wheel speed signal, etc., obtainable from CAN information to calculate damper speed with high accuracy using Showa’s unique estimation system without the use of a stroke sensor. The elimination of a sensor and its wire-harness resulted in the reduction of cost and weight by about 2kg. This development has made possible the application of electronically controlled damper not only to D-segment and above but also to C-segment cars.

To realize the “ultimate ride comfort and fun drive.”

 Because of its capability of accurately detecting damper speed, this technology makes it possible to realize the skyhook control which is effective for improving ride comfort. Also, the combination with Showa’s S-SEES®, which improves the basic damper performance, will help realize the “ultimate ride comfort and fun driving”.
 In anticipation of market demand for the coordinated control in and after 2020, Showa is also developing a technology that enables the coordinated and mutual control between the suspension and steering systems, etc.
