SFRD(Sensitive Frequency Response Damper)

 Showa has realized a mechanism that uses mechanical means to automatically adjust damping force depending on the frequency of the vibration input from road surfaces. While it accomplishes both the steering stability and ride comfort at high level, it also contributes to the reduction of cost and weight because no electronically controlled system, etc., is needed. With a highly efficient hydraulic passage design (Gen-2 S-SEES®), the Improved Version of SFRD® can offer further improved damping force responsiveness.

To realize better steering stability and ride comfort

 Showa has realized a damper capable of varying damping force depending on the frequency of vibration input from road surfaces by using its unique mechanical structure. Both the superior ride comfort and steering stability have been achieved at low cost because no expensive sensor or electronic control component is necessary.
 The variable damping mechanism of this product has a structure that mitigates the rapid changes of damping force often seen in similar products, and significantly reduces load fluctuations that could cause damper noises. This feature is therefore suited for hybrid cars that require a high-level of quietness.

Improved damping force responsiveness

 The Improved Version of SFRD® presented here uses a newly-developed highly efficient hydraulic passage design (Gen-2 S-SEES®). The realization of higher damping responsiveness than the conventional models has enabled the achievement of both the steering stability and ride comfort at high level and the reduction of road noises.
 Among other variable-damping dampers, SFRD® is characterized as small, light-weight and low cost. Being shorter than the conventional type, the Improved Version of SFRD® also contributes to space saving, especially in vehicles with low hood height.
